Does anyone know if there are some games that detect a modchip and activate a "kill switch" on your MC? I have a matrix infinity (1.88 fw) that works perfectly on everything but game backups when the MC is present, but loads backups just fine without it. I think this has happened before, and to fix I deleted everything from the MC and restored saves one by one, but that was a fair while ago and I don't really want to have to do it again if I can help it.

I've tried deleting a "corrupted data" save which turned out to be my ulaunchelf configuration (oops) and have also deleted ps2 settings.

Anyone else experienced this and knows how to fix?

No-one else has experienced something about their MC screwing up reading backups?

1.Does this happen on your original game or only on backups?
2.What's your card,is it original 8mb sony card or?
3.If it happens on originals too, that chip have abbility to disable it(I think it way by holding the Start button while you turning on your PS2 and after the message Disabled appear just reset your PS2 and try to run original came with the mc insearted)
4.Do ypu have FMCB installed and what's your PS2 version
5.Can you use your card like this(or this is how you use it becase of your problem)...unplug the card, start the game and plug the card again

    1. I *thought* it was only happening with backups, but now I'm not certain.
    2. Yes, original sony 8mb.
    3. Tested with chip disabled, and made sure it becomes enabled again.
    4. What's FMCB? Answer is no.
    5. Haven't tried that.

Thanks for the suggestions vsub, but I now think the problem is a dead (or dying) laser. I didn't think this would happen to me since I never really used my ps2 all that much, but I've seen plenty of others talking about it happening on here. After further testing, I've established that whether the MC is in or not doesn't really matter, the one or two times it worked it must have just been a coincidence that I'd taken the MC out. What I'm seeing now is only being able to load from disc successfully maybe one in twenty times.

I can't be bothered trying to get it fixed, so I think I might just try and load everything from disc onto hdd for use with hdl. I seem to recall you could read from a dvd and copy via network using hdl_dump or something, need to search and find the instructions on how to do this again...

Thanks for the guide(I actually wanted to know how to connect my PS2 to my PC)but I prefer to connect my HDD directly to my PC and use WinHIIP.There the transfer rate is up to 23mb/s
