    Hey everyone

I'm new to this site, all support forum help from the top 3 mod-chips led me here.

As it were, I am in the market for a couple of mod-chips... I have two PS2s... one a classic PS2 and a PStwo slim. I have been doing a lot of reading over the past week, and have pretty much decided to get an Matrix Infinity mod-chip, edging-out (no pun intended) the Crystal 2.0 slightly. I suppose the main reason I don't go to a crystal chip is because from what I am reading, the firmware provided by the manufacture cannot play backups/imports. One must wait for the hacked version to be available, which I am aware is readily available. Although I like the fact that Crystal 2.0 supports DNAS auto-patching, I don't find myself playing online games often enough to make it a part of my decision.

Leading me back to the Matrix chip. It pretty much does everything I am looking for except the DNAS auto-patching(can be overlooked for now). My only concern, and the reason for this post... The matrix team has not released a firmware update since November(language), and a a real actual firmware enhancement since October or last year. I am just curious if anyone has heard from the Matrix team and if they are still around making new firmware? I read a post that indicated they were suppose to come out with DNAS auto-patching back in March of 2006 sometime. (again just using it as a reference point).

Is this 2.0 firmware going to come out or have we seen the latest firmware already?

I also have been reading contradicting information regarding the laser fix... most of these mod-chips come with the "Neo-fix"... one sites have stated that the Neo-fix is only needed for V12, others that all PStwos need it, and I have also read that the V15 and up no longer need the fix. Can someone clear this up for me?

    TIA,
    EdGe7

Matrix chip is a fine chip but I hear that production has stopped but dunno about support. I still believe these are just rumors floating around, I have yet to see any hard evidence that production has ceased. Crystal Chip is also one the best chips out there, I would seriously advise you to reconsider but the Matrix is also just as good of a choice. On the "fixes" questions DO NOT install a fix on a slim from 13-15 only V12 needs a fix.

Thanks for answering... well you have been successful at getting me to rethink my options. I have been looking at the Crystal chip and reading further in these past few hours since your reply, and I have found that the Crystal uses a bootmenu, which I have no problem with except my question is; Can the boot menu be disabled? Meaning, when I put in a disc (PS2 backup/original/DVD movie/PS1 backup/original/etc...) To just boot it without it going into the boot menu?

I kinda just want to put the disc in and play.

    Thanks,
    EdGe7

Well you can set boot manager to autoboot and it'll boot the disc automatically without you doing anything or leave it off and just press boot media from the menu

Does the CC BootMenu completely replace the Sony dashboard?

Is the Sony dashboard still accessible if needed?

Well I have to be honest, because CC is still getting frequent updates and the most current firmware available (.31) has been hacked... I am starting to lean towards the Crystal chip. At mod-chip.com the prices are the same, so thats not a consideration. About the hacked firmware, roughly what is the turnaround time when a new firmware is released by the Crystal Team, then a hacked firmware released by the scene?

I wish the Matrix Team would give us some kind of notice that they are still in the ball game and the chips are still in production. I like the fact that my PS2 behaves like an ordinary PS2 with the Matrix chip.

LOL... man, this topic got way off topic.

i think tbh that the whole ps2 scene is dead the next gen consoles have all been released no more games are being released for the ps2 anymore cept for 2 or 3 more games, so i think they just gave up, it's sad really because this would have become the ultimate ps2 modchip

Well unfortunately my nature is to trust certainty and not speculation. I have taken gamecube's suggestion and went with the Crystal chip. Ordered my chips and they should be here tomorrow. Looks like I better freshen up on my soldering skills.

    Thanks,
    EdGe7

P.S. The PS2 isn't going anywhere, its Sony's oldie but goodie flagship. About new games, there are at least 6 or 7 planned up until Fed 30th, on Sony's website. Games will continue to be released on the PS2 until the Next Gen consoles can catch up. Might be a while. As far as the Matrix team, the fact they haven't updated their site in two months, has cost them business... not that two chips matter, but I wonder how many people have come to my conclusion because of the lack of news.
