I burned ff9 a PS1 PAL game, when I tried to load it up it brought me to the quickboot screen i guess, the menu/option screen when you hold down SELECT. I never seen that before but I noticed PAL was selected.. I didn't think twice about it so I reset mY PS2 and it started up in a different screen mode. Now my screen goes up/down continually and in black and white.. so i can't see much, I can make out where I am but i can't select anythign... the only way i get things back to normal is if i disable the chip by pressing start but then i cant play backed up games.
I'm not sure how to get it back into standard screen mode or force it to... when i hold select and go back to the otion screen i can't change anythign cos i can't really see what option i'm selecing.. all my games are now useless except for ff9 which starts up fine. thanks a lot

This can be a little tricky but you might be able to do it blind if you follow my instructions.

Upon pressing the power button, hold down triangle + circle. Press X once. Press start. Reset PS2. Try that...
