Matrix Infinity probs
I just installed my first mod chip in my PS2 slim V14 and have all kinds of issues trying to get original and backup games to load. I get the Infinity logo upon power-up, but sometimes it hangs there. If it does I can usually just "fidgit" with putting it in standby or pulling the power plug completely and I can get past the Infinity logo, but it's hit or miss if the game will load. I've got the backups to load several times after above "fidgiting", but it's inconsistant. I've had it apart and checked all slobber joints, and I've ohmed the connections out with my Fluke from the mod chip to the processor lead or via, whichever is easier to trace and get to. My resistances are all from .5 to .7 ohms on every connection. Everything is tight. I've checked all joints with a handheld 60-100X handheld microscope (Radio Shack PN 63-1133) and can't find any problems.
I've got version 1.88 loaded (the way it came) and am leary of upgrading it due to all the issues I've read about upgrading the chips. I'm including pics of my install to let the pros suggest anything. Also, I can get into the configuration and was curious if anything is wrong. It's as follows:
PS2 SCREEN FIX: COLOR
Y SCREEN FIX (GREYED OUT)
PSX SCREEN FIX: ON
SPX MULTI DISK: OFF
MC16 PATCH: OFF
ATAD AUTO PATCH: OFF
MACROVISION FIX: ON
GREEN FIX: OFF
DVDVIDEO REGION: 8
DVD9 DL SUPPORT: OFF
BOOT MODE: AUTO
PAD DETECT TIME: 10
BOOT LOGO: ON
Is there something that needs to be changed? And after I make changes, how the heck do you save the changes? :-)
Thanks for any help on this folks.....
DUDE, what are you on?!?! Place the modchip below the PONM/QTUVRW points, inbetween the two screws. And for the love of God, rewire it SHORTER. All your wires are way too long.
holy cow!! Them is long ass wires!! :)
Well, looking at the thickness of the mod chip (PCB and devices) it didn't look like it would fit between the metal shield and the motherboard. That's why I mounted it around on the top side. How did you guys mount yours to the motherboard?
Could the long wires be my problem?
Yeah, the long ground and 3.3 v power wires are probably you're issue - however the length of the other wires isn't helping either. Find a picture of somebody else's install on a slim and you'll where they should go. I don't have any handy at the moment, but go back to the general modchip thread and find that sticky thread about people posting pictures. You'll see some great installs in there.
Cool, thanks for the info. I'll dig around for those pix.
OH Yeah, just found the stash of pix. Man, did I make a slobber job out of mine compared to the pro's pix. Looks like I get to redo mine. :-( But practice makes perfect. :-)
OMFG!!! mount the chip in the general area where you see caution and attention, top left of chip by the 2nd "T" and the bottom left of the chip by the "C". I just finished my Matrix install on the GH-051-02 mobo and have installed the latest FW_1.93. I'll post pics soon.
Just wanted to thank everyone who gave me feedback on my install. I took the much-needed advice, found the install pics on the forum and remounted my Infinity on the "correct" side of the board, with all wires as short as possible. I'll be damned if the thing doesn't load up and play EVERY one of my games, originals and backups!!! It' even reads my purple Memorex DVD-R media that my backups are on. Before, when it would manage to load a backup, it would never load a Memorex backup.
And I guess I got the location of the chip right 'cause the case went back together like there's nothing in there. As Ace Ventura would say............"Like a glove!"
I'm nothing but smiles now.
