No! We're misunderstanding each other. I've only used the retail HD loader to install those couple games to HDD via ps2 disc tray drive. HD loader disc isn't being used to run the those 2 games nor any other of my games. I use DMS HDD Explorer with HD Loader 0.7(installed to HDD) to play my games. No HD Loader disc at all is being used to actually play/launch those 2 games. Only the DMS HDD Explorer w/HD Loader installed to HDD is used to launch my games. I did use the regular retail HD Loader CD to install these 2 games but now I switched to the installed DMS HDD Explorer w/HD Loader 0.7 in which I use to play all my games from HDD. I hope I explained myself to where we can understand each other now. I know I can sound confusing but hopefully you'll understand it now. Thanks! BTW, these 2 game installs have been the only usage that the laser has experienced at all. I haven't used any other game discs at all in this MI console. This is the reason why I can't see my laser to crash with such very little usage.

Ok, we have an understanding now. It's odd that the laser crapped out without you using it. Sorry I don't have a solution other than replacing the laser to see if that's really the problem or not. Right now it sounds like that's the issue.
Now you see why I can't fathom the laser crashing! Anyhow, that very well may be the case since I've tried another good cleaning plus the cog adjustments & still have no luck. I see your signature prices for your services! What would the cost be to repair/replace the laser & if there possibly could be another issue? The MI chip is/has worked flawlessly since purchased so there shouldn't be any problems on that end. Thanks!

I hope you marked the original position of the cog. Just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you're interested in the repair.
Since PS2 has only 32MB ram, it streams data from DVD not only during intermissions but during actual game play. Fine, but Sony should've constructed the DVD drive like a brick shithouse, if they designed it to be used in such heavy way.
And if you use hdd, then hdd is going to suffer. Better to save $40 laser and kill $150 hdd?
