ATAD Auto Patching is a feature from the modchip that lets your regular IDE HDD to be recognized by the PS2 as the official HDD (that came with FFXI). With this enabled, you can install the HDD Utility Disc 1.10, so you can use the updated version of the PS2 browser. Then the HDD will show up on the browser, you'll be able to create FOLDERS for game saves backups.

Resident Evil: Outbreak File #2 - Installs 1.024mb to reduce loading times
ESPN NBA 2K5 - Installs 1.024mb to reduce loading times, and to improve the half time replays. It also lets you save directly to the HDD
Socom 2 - If you enable HDD ENABLE in the options menu, it creates an empty 256mb partition, so you can install the HDD Maps that came in Official PlayStation Magazine Demo Discs.
Anyway, the bug they fixed, was discovered by me and asapreta. Any HDD supported games would lockup the console. Great to hear it's fixed now. Gonna go update it.
