I was contacted by a friend of mine who I installed a matrix in his v4.
His matrix chip has gone bad after one year apparently. It can't boot back-ups but his dev functions work perfectly.
I saw this over the weekend when I went up to Denver to visit him.
At first I thought his laser was bad, but he hardly ever uses it since he uses Hdloader all the time. So I went through the usual trouble shooting procedure. Does it boot real games from browser and it doesn't. It boots originals really fast and never goes to browser. He uses swap magic and his back-ups boot fast and there are never any problems. I even brought one of my working back-ups just to make sure. We tested both CD/DVD backups.
He removed my original install thinking it was bad and did his own. This was about a month ago.
He does have a background in engineering so he is no slouch to soldering. I checked his install when I was up there with a multimeter and everything was good and the install was clean. I even checked for continuity from the alt points on the PS2 directly to the IC on the Matrix and it was all good.
The chip was never updated since he never needed to, so its at stock 1.83 firmware. And he has never messed around with the settings either. He is a casual gamer and basically plays all his games from HDloader except the few games he can't.
Anyone have any other ideas of what it could be?
Has anyone ever encountered this problem before?
