OK. I'll try explain best I can.
I had a Matrix Infinity installed into my old style PS2 about a year ago (maybe even longer) and been working perfectly. I've not messed about with the settings much - if it's working alright then I'm not one to mess it up! I've not even upgraded the firmware from 1.4 (what it was when I got it).
However, yesterday when I booted up the PS2 it booted straight to the config menu (if you were pressing Triangle and Circle). I went "oh", didn't change anything but pressed start and it said "please press reset".
Now however, it doesn't seem to boot right at all. For example, if I turn on the PS2 (with controller attached), with nothing in it and I'm not pressing any buttons then it just doesn't boot to anything. If I hold down a button (circle, or select sometimes) then it'll try and boot but won't play back-ups. If I soft reset from here it will then play originals, but it's a bit of a pain.
I can re-enter the config menu (I've messed about turning stuff on and off but nothing helping), but it's not letting me disable the chip (holding start).
I've burnt off a firmware upgrade but again, it's not loading it (like it was a backup).
Now, before I take it back to the shop, can someone help me answer these questions.
1) Is there anything I can do it get it working? I've got it in my head that it's just some simple switch or option I've messed up by accident and I'm too stupid to know what it is.
2) Is my chip a fake? Anyway to tell without opening the case?
Thank you in advance for any help/advice. Sorry about not knowing model numbers or chip types...
