Installing Apps to PS2 using OSX-based machine

Hi people

I am hoping one of you can give me some advice on how to do this with a MacOSX machine.

I own a PS2 (v5 i think?), a 120gb hdd, HDLoader DVD (yes, an original!), and have an Infinity Matrix V1.88 modchip installed.

Every time i tried to boot off the DevInstaller V1.1 by extracting archive, renaming a PS2 Exe (ie HDLoader.ELF) to BOOT.ELF and copying all the DevInstaller files to the root path and burning it is an ISO 9660CD via Toast 6, as the instructions seem to indicate to do.

On putting the CD into the PS2 and trying to boot off it, the screen goes black for a moment but then returns to the browser menu.

I've also used OSX ver of HDL_Patch to patch a clean exe of HDLoader with only /B flag, and then copied the ELF into the DevInstaller folder, and then burnt that folder onto CD as well.

But in neither case did it work.

Please help!

try to read this CD in a windows machine. it may be that mac does some funky stuff to filenames.

also, try finding a pre-built CD image (ISO) and burn that on your mac. should be fooolproof.

the iso image doesn't have to be with HDLoader. for example, an iso with uLaunchELF or similar app will allow you to take full control of PS2.

Do you know of any links to any pre-built images with uLaunchELF (as uLaunch was the other PS2 app i put into the DevInstaller folder to burn to CD. I'm wondering if the PS2 CD Gen utility is the difference here? (which doesn't exist under OSX AFAIK).

ps2mkisofs is what I use on my x86 Linux and maybe also under MacOS X

Seems the fact I just set Toast to burn as ISO 9660 may be the issue. From reading Linux / PS2 thread on burning discs, they said long as it burns Mode2/XA it'll work fine. I'm guessing Toast by default burns Mode 1 / ISO 9660?

What counts is the offset 12231 from the beginning of the disk to the SYSTEM-file.

Seems the only option may be to run VirtualPC or use a Windows machine then to do it. Which is annoying as there's various other PS2 'homebrew' tools for OSX out there, just not this cruicial one...

I guess you have mkisofs on your mac?

I have done this several times, 2-3 years ago,
these days I only use uLauch from MC.

plain old mkisofs on linux works fine for making PS2 homebrew discs but probably NOT game disks. that's why on forums they mention Mode2/Xa, although PS2 dvds are just standard UDF dvd discs (as far as i know), and don't have any of the extra channels/modes that original PS1 discs have.
