i purchased this supposedly modded ps2 from a friend, it wont play any backups but it will play original ps2 games. but it will play backups of dvd movies. it says playstation 2 infinity v1.4 at boot, is there a certain key i have to press when loading up a backup of a game?
No, there are no special buttons you have to press if you are using a mod-chip. This is what a modchip is for, it's supposed to boot CD/DVD backups as it would a regular CD/DVD game. Version 1.4 is a very old version of their firmware, and there is always the chance you have a clone. The latest official firmware from the Matrix Team is 1.93, which you can confirm yourself by checking their news section here.
EDIT: If you are not sure if you have a clone, DO NOT try to change any of the chips boot menu settings when you learn how to get there or upgrade the firmware. Doing either of those two things will render your chip completely useless. The only way to confirm for certain if you have a clone or not is to compare an actual photo of yours with the ones listed on the Matrix's website, or speak to the person who modded it for you if you can trust them.
EDIT2: Here is a photo of an offical Matrix Infinity chip: http://www.infinitymod.com/matrix/up...yBigLetter.JPG
I believe the reason its not working is because your BIOS, GND, and PWR, wires are correctly soldered thus you get the infinity 1.4 sign but one but one of the CDVD wires is loose or has bad contact thus you having your ps2 acting like its unmodded.
well actually i guess it was just some bad discs, i've found some games that actually work and they are backups.
