My v12 PS2 was working fine for about 2 years now, but when I decided to upgrade the firmware to 1.93 because I have trouble with DVD-DL. Anyway, when I tried to upgrade my firmware, it kept staying at Programming 0% for almost 5 minutes until I reseted my PS2. I tried loading again but getting the error - Please a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc (or something like that). When I tried to go to recovery mode, it won't boot, only black screen. BTW, I'm booting from a cd and even tried creating a cd for my previous firmware, 1.38, but with no luck.

i hope its not a clone...but check your Modchip again and if you could take a pic of your chip and post here.
most of freezing due to clones..

I'm very sorry to have to tell you, but you have a clone modchip which is now destroyed.

It really sucks people sold these chips as Matrix Chips, but they're not. If you open your PS2 up you'll see your chip looks nothing like a proper Matrix Chip should.

Your only hope now is to either get your money back off the person who sold it to you (but after 2 years? I don't think that'll work) or install a new Modchip. If you go the 2nd route I suggest either an offical MI, or now I'd even suggest a Crystal Chip.

Does that means that I'm screwed if I have a fake matrix infinity? I spend over $100 to get it installed and got it installed with a fake chip! OMG!!

BTW, does anyone know a good place to get it remod?

the only thing it cannot be upgraded some of them can and also cannot be Updated ..
there are clones that have both Dev1 and Dev2 like modbo 3 (matirx clone which i have this chip) never got any problem with it

BTW, does anyone know a good place to get it remod?

Depends on where you're located or if you want to ship it out to be modded, but you should be posting this question in the Buy Sell Trade Vendors forum here.

Neither do I, but he will have to if he isn't geographically close to any modders : )
