Having a bit of trouble Freezing on a V9 with a MI –

I installed a MI for a customer and then sent it up to canada. It says it worked perfect when he got it. Now about a week and a half later today i get a email from him saying this
"having a bit of a problem with the PS2.. it has frozen on me twice now and nothing I can do except turn it off cold. Then after I restart it it doesn't get past the "Matrix" screen until 4-5 tries.. it has happened with both an original ps2 game and a backup.
anything I can do?"
I would think it is a couple of things. The laser was good as new. I told him to only use high quality DVD media. I would think that would be the problem except for one thing. He says it doesnt get past the matrix screen until 4-5 tries. This makes me think that the modchip is overheating or something. I dont know. Has anyone heard of this? thanks for the help

I am not sure if this is the problem but did you use thick wire for 3.3v and gnd ? If I were you I would tell him to ship it back and then you can take a look at it and maybe re install it etc.. from experience I wouldn't tell the customer to open up the console and take a look.

i might end up having him send it to you. Shipping down and up would be $60. Do you live close to quebec? ground wire was super thick, the 3.3 wire was just normal 30avg but it was working perfect before. i dont know why it would just start acting up like that.

Well it would be cheaper if he ships it to me I am in Burnaby, BC, Canada. If you want me to do it just pm me thanks. Also I had a weird problem like this before when I installed a Crystal Chip v1.1 he had it for 1 week and it was fine then one day backups would not boot but he can still get into bootmanager..

Does anyone know whats wrong? i got another message today
"it keeps freezing on me, even with original games, it's really frustrating me. I'll play for 2 mins and then it freezes and I can't even get past the Matrix screen even if I reboot the ps2 40 times. I just have to wait and maybe i'll get lucky later.. (doesn't always work later either)
I cleaned the game I was using and it still did it right after. I think there could be something broken with the chip inside, hence the little piece moving around. Maybe you could guide me into looking into that? never opened a ps2 before.
thanks"

is the fan still working? maybe there's a suspect soldering joint which is sensative to heat. difficult to say without looking at the mod.

Ask him to reflash the firmware. That might be the problem. Update to the latest firmware.

it is 1.88, i flashed it before it sent it off. i wonder if reflashing would work. maybe have him try a older version
