    Hi Guys,

I just got my moded PS2 a few days ago and from the boot up screen I see that it has firmware v1.33 (if I get the number right!). I am thinking about upgrading the firmware to the new v1.88. Just to be save, can anyone confirm that it's ok to go ahead? And if the upgrade process fails will I still be able to revive it? TIA for any help.

Thanks jenko, but how do I know if it's a clone? Is openning the box the only way?

I don't remember clones having firmware v1.33. I think they were running on v1.36. But don't take my word for it, open your console up if you know how to make sure.

I'm aware that clones do run on versions other than v1.36, but I'm just stating that I don't recall v1.33 as one of them.

Sorry guys, actually it was running v1.39 (damn old TV should go to the garbage!). One thing I have noticed is that it doesn't save any settings that I changed in the Infinity Manager. Is this a good indication that it's a clone?

If I remember right Matrix never had a 1.39. Also, I would guess that if you cant save your settings that you most likely have a clone. Sometimes if you try to save your setting and you have a clone it will kill your chip also. I checked the matrix site but it looks like they removed a lot of there old versions from the site. If it still works, I would just leave it as is, or open up your PS2 and look to see just what you really do have before you think about upgrading the software so you don't kill the chip. Just my .02 cents.

    @ Formosan

if your chip is offical then you can upgrade to the newest firmware reguardless, otherwise if you are unsure do not upgrade or confirm you have a original MI.
