DVD drive not recognised after install
DVD drive not recognised after install –
added: version 5 of PAL ps2
i see the logo screen for a few secs (so controller connected ok)
even if i have an original game in the DVD drive, it will not boot it
istead it goes to system config / browser
when i browse it ONLY shows the memory card... no DVD
ADDED: the DVD drive will eject and retract but does not spin the disc once inserted
unsure if the DVD icon would be there if there is no game in it, or if it only shows up when a game is in... can someone confirm which, please?
thoughts are that maybe the matrix doesnt recognise the DVD drive
i disabled it, and it still doesnt show in the browser
i have checked all the connections, and the ribbons are home:
BAD NEWS is that i screwed up the 3.3v wire- here's how:
i lifted the end of the resistor (the side near the end of the chip)
for now i have jammed the 3.3v wire back in little hole (hoping there is a connection!) and the soldered joint (and a lump off the side of the resistor) pushed against the body bit of the resistor.
the thing is, the matrix must be getting power, it boots ok with the logo, and tirangle circle DOES get the matrix menu , so the power must be getting to it ok. so i dont THINK this is the problem...
so if any genius knows what to look out for, PLEASE let me know, any and all advise welcome, as i'm about to put the whole lot in the bin
MANY thanks - hope someone can help!!!!!

Reason: more detail
Try getting the PS2 to work again. Remove the chip then start over.
are there a couple of wires i could de-solder instead of taking offf the whole lot
Double check your ribbon cables to and from the DVD drive, the spin motor and the laser ribbon.... reseat each of them to insure they are properly installed.
If that doesn't correct the problem, then check all your fuses. I believe there are 14 all together.
I would check PS12 and PS14 first, most likely candidates for this issue.
Here is a diagram for the v5 fuse locations.

No, you can't just remove some wires. It's best if you remove all the wires.

can you help me find it please?
can you tell me if the DVD icon in the browser is ALWAYS there?
is it ONLY there when a DVD is in the drive?
thew answer to this will help me determine if i've cracked the DVDbeing recognised by the de-activated system, (i hope).
