DEV1/DEV2 don't work
I have 1.82 firmware, NOT sure if it's a clone or not, but I've saved the config numerous times without it dying.
Ok, if I hold L1 or L2 it will boot fine from HDD or memcard..so I know the files are on it right.. but if I select DEV1 or DEV2 in the config and save it just boots up normally and goes to the browser screen... Is this because of clone?
I know it's saving the configuration right because I'm able to change it from using the PS2 logo to using Matrix, and then back... And it says "DEV1" or "DEV2" when I go back into the menu.. so it's not like it's resetting to AUTO.
On DEV1, do you have a BOOT/ directory on your mc? (mc0:/BOOT/) and a BOOT.ELF in it?
On DEV2, did you run the DEV2 installer, (48-bit version for hdd >127GB)
Yes on both. It's weird, because L1 and R1 both will boot the respective HDD or MC just fine, but selecting DEV1 or DEV2 just takes me to the browser screen.

Some clones (very few) do allow you to change and save the config without killing the chip, and I believe one or two will allow fw upgrades.
But before you go to that extreme, I fixed up the folders for your memory card These saves are for codebreaker, but can be converted to AR Max or Gameshark format using ps2-savebuilder 0.8 (google for it)
This zip file contains saves for mc0:/BOOT/ (uLaunchELF.cbs) and mc0:/SYS-CONF/ (SYS-CONF.cbs) that I know work. These are ready to throw on a usb pen drive and copied to the mc. Hope this helps.
Well it appears I DO have a clone, because I tried to update the firmware to the newest and it froze (won't let me press start, both via CD-R and from a flash drive via uLaunchELF) but luckilly it didn't seem to fry the chip since backups still boot and all.
Anyway, I fixed it... for some reason the settings weren't taking effect when I simply resetted it (as the configuration screen instructed me to do)... they ONLY took hold after I turned it off via the switch at the back and then turned back on and hit the front power button after, Then DEV2 worked from that point.
Thanks for the assistance. I guess I have one of the better quality clones out there since it didn't die after trying to update FW.
i wouldnt call it a better quality clone as new modbos can use DEV1 and 2 and let you save settings normaly.
