Can't use any backups

I need some serious help, the Matrix screen shows up when I boot my ps2, but when I try to use a backup game, it says, "Please install a ps or ps2 format disc" you know the one with a red background. Yet, when I use an original ps2 disc, the infinity v.1.92 mark shows up!

Check CD/DVD wires. Simple enough.
