Have you tried reflashing the chip?
tried that last night, no difference. I don't know if this matters but sometimes it actually goes to the red screen. what is "Dev2" and would that help?

for anyone who cares. I adjusted the DVD laser Pot down about 200 ohms and that fixed it.

Did you do the romeo mod? If you have a laser with a dvd pot ohm of 200 then your laser will be fried very very soon. I don't think the laser is the issue. The Matrix Infinity should not freeze because the laser.
This is odd... did you do the romeo mod ? did you use thick wire for 3.3v and gnd ?
can you access the MI config by holding triangle and circle on boot? If so that would rule out the BIOS wires being wrong, although if your seeing the Matrix logo... Check your CDVD wires and o ya this would be your first step before this: Is your controller hooked up to port 1?
i dont know what the romeo mod is. I can fully access the menu. I should have clarified that I redused the resistance of the laser by 200 ohms. It is now at about 13oo ohms. Originally 1545 ohms. I am also thinking that part of the problem is one of 3 things: the media I am using (sony dvd-r), my burner (pioneer 105), or alcohol 120, because the games dont seem to last more than about 25 to 30 uses before skipping.
thanks
It's the media you are using. 1300 ohms is normal. You can probably go down another 100 ohms. The laser still has a lot of life left. I recommend you go out to a local electronic store and grab yourself some Verbatim dvd-r. Burn games using Nero or DVD Decrypter at lowest supported speed. Pioneer 105 is probably a little old. The laser on that thing might be worn if you used it a lot.
well I was wrong. last night after the adjustment the games worked like a charm. I could boot the firmware cd, and get into the infinity manager. Today it is back to its tempermental self and hanging on the MATRIX logo, I can't even get into the manager.
