Booting .ELF from the HDD on startup with Infinity?
Booting .ELF from the HDD on startup with Infinity? –
I've a Matrix Infinity with firmware 1.54 on my PS2 V9 with HDD and i've read into the readme.txt of the firmware that it's possible to launch a elf file from the Hard Drive Disk by pressing L1 on boot (DEV2 Mode). But how? It's mentioned nowhere in the readme file ???
thx for helping me
You put it on the memory card with execftp and name it boot.elf,I belive.
I just delete the manager.elf on the memory card and replace it with HDL renamed manager.elf and boot with triangle held down, because thats the only app I use often.
Its kind of a pain to install apps with matrix manager because you have to load them with a cd first...
ok but this is to launch a elf from a Mem card.
Now the new feature is to launch a elf from the HDD directly on boot so we'll not need anymore memory card to launch HDL for exemple.
Download DEV2 Install Software V1.0 - 28/05/2005 from infinitymod.com, there is a readme file as follows.
INFINITY DEV2 INSTALLER V1.0
This program enables you to install any PS2 executable on your HDD and
lauch it as the default DEV2 program. This will let you play with DEV2
mode until the new HDD enabled Infinity Manager will be released.
To use it :
- Rename the ELF executable that you want to use as BOOT.ELF
- Burn a PS2 cd with all the files included in this archive and your
- Boot the cd and follow the on-screen instructions.
E.G. to use PS2OS directly from the HDD :
Rename the file PS2OS.ELF as BOOT.ELF and burn a cd with the following
After the installation is complete you can launch PS2OS directly from
your HDD by holding L1 just after reset (or select DEV2 as the default
boot mode in the config screen).
And that is the instructions to get your Ps2 to boot your app from the hard drive, ie: Hddloader. So thats what i did, i renamed HDLFPP.ELF which i copied from my HDloader boot disc to BOOT.ELF and burnt it with the other 4 files, dummy.bin, dummy2.bin, system.cnf, and dev2i.elf. The prob is the cd dosent boot, i have burned it with nero as a data cd, and also as a udf/iso cd. I think i might have to use Ps2gen or something but im stuck here, so if you can help then great.
Thx a lot that's exactly what i search.
I don't know if it work but maybe you can just send the DEV2I.EFL and the BOOT.ELF file by network on the ps2 mem card then with any file browser you can launch the DEV2I.elf that'll instal the boot app.
I'll try it as soon as possible

Got it working at last, i used CDGENPS2V2 to burn the 5 files to a cd, booted up the cd and got a message on screen something like install app to hard drive, rebooted with Dev2 mode enabled. HDloader now boots up from my hard drive when i power it up.
CDGENPS2 was too hard to find anywhere on the net, i was lucky i had an archived older version.
Also if you have any games which just stay blank when you run it from the hard drive, press select on pad when game is highlighted in menu, then change option to shut down HDloader when you execute the game. Save changes and try again, worked on 2 so far for me, Winning eleven 9 with Fernando patch V4, and also World championship snooker 2005.
I have an similar problem. tried to get HD Advance working from HDD. burned the elf as BOOT.ELF and the 4 other files on a disc. then installed it on HDD: But when I start in DEV2 Mode, it shows me an error that cdvd.irx is missing? So what can I do?
did you copy the iso file to the hhd? if yes, then you'll need to patch the iso file. Or you could only use the elf file!
