I installed the MI chip into the v14 and it's worked perfectly... I was looking for one of my backups recently and ran into a DVD that have PS2 data (what looked like data off a PS2 game) on the CD when I checked it out on my computer... so I threw it into the PS2 and it began to boot.

    The Matrix logo booted fine...
The PS2 logo w/ Matrix underneth it loaded fine....
Then it went to a black screen like it was about to switch to the game....
    And it stayed that way....

Now nothing works in it, when I take out ALL disc media and restart it I get a black screen... no PS2 Sony browser or anything...

I unplugged it and left it unplugged for about 45min.... I turned it on and it started to boot up right so I turned it off and put the v1.75 firmware upgrade in there and restarted it and reloaded the firmware AGAIN, just incase something happened to the firmware... then I loaded a game and it started fine. Then I switched to another PS2 backup and now it's back to the way it was a little bit ago... nothing but a black screen. Even regular PS2 games won't load!

Not even a DVD, nothing.... What in the world could one bad PS2 game/data have done to my PS2/MI chip? Can anyone help me diagnois this thing?

Ok... everything works fine now... And I didn't do anything to it.. now the Mem card won't work though?.... I've tried it in both slots. The machine reads a PS1 mem card... just not the PS2 mem card... Any ideas?

i would suspect your install.. you might have a "cold" solder bond/joint. Redo the install and use flux paste on the solder.
