app install problems –
02-01-2006,08:45 PM
Ok I would like to boot and intall an app on the memory card. I have tried dungbeetles suggestions on the posts below as well as broodj's tutorial on installing ELF's, neither of them worked. I follow their instructions to the "T" and am only using Sony CD-R's / very slow speeds (tried high 32x settings too,as that is what I burned the flash cd/infman cd at and they worked fine) and nothing works. I have specifically flashed to 1.75 and installed the matrix infinity manager myself (I installed the chip so no fake MI), however, the infinity manager does not boot when pressing triangle at the boot screen or after setting the boot mode as "INFMAN" in the circle + triangle config menu. Besides install the matrix infinity manager through the cd I have done nothing to the mem card (since I do not have codebreaker or action replay) Any help or ideas?

either try a different MC or format your MC
if infinity manager wont even boot then the problem is definately with the MC

Ok I tried a new MC, one by madcats (the other was an original ps2 MC), reinstalled the infinity manager and tried again. (After pressing triangle at matrix logo) It just took me to the browser where it shows the MC/HDD/CD icons. After checking my MC, I found a file (along with the game saves I already have on it) called "corrupted data" about 200KB in size. I am assuming that is the infinity manager install, but I have never heard a mention of "corrupted data" on a memory card from this site. I will try to format the MC, but how exactly do you do that?

I think inf manager should show as matrix in mc so its obviously not installing properly, to format you need mcformat elf and use launch elf to load and format
what are you using to burn infinity manager

Burning the 1.36 firmware w/ the inf manager and installing. The cd-r's are Sony, burned them at 32x....that might be it? I'll go get that mcformat elf and see if I can get it working

Ok, formatted the MC with MCkiller from ps2newz and that worked out well. I reburned the 1.36 firmware at 8x (slowest I could apparently) and reinstalled the inf manager to the memory card (said it was a success). I rebooted the machine after returning to the browser , pressed triangle at the boot screen and it still lead me back to the same MC/HDD icons in the browser. Also, after checking the MC it now has just the system config file and a blue block called "corrupted data" still. This is getting hopeless
I am going to send in an email to the infinity people to see what they say....

are you holding triangle as soon as you press reset
to boot infinity
press reset to turn on machine
hold triangle and keep it held straight away after pressing reset to turn on and it should boot infinity manager

just tried that and still same result. I mean I can see that it is trying to boot something...hard to explain but it is something that happanes with the screen that I can only relate to when a game boots up in the ps2.

u said it just goes back to the system browser right ? where u can see ur HDD MC en CD ? How come u can see your HDD in your system browser? u have an original Ps2 HDD ?
And did u try other settings within the matrix chip (press and hold circle+triangle while booting)
