problem skinning usb advance –
01-31-2010,11:18 PM
hello,
i'm trying to apply the usb advance trident skin i found here in the usb advance skins section but for some odd
reason it only patches one of the images
either the splash, main, button or misc and when you try
to patch another image it restores all the skins i tried to replace
i followed the tutorial at sksapps and i have qiuite a lot of
experience using the command prompt
any help would be appreciated
thanks!

hey did you extracted the images ?
btw it would be better to use OpenPS2Loader instead of USBA

i used usbastrip and followed the tutorial word for word
and i know about open ps2 loader but all the games
i have on usba are working and i'm not planning on adding
more (16 gb usb pen drive full)
plus i have a sony official hdd now and i have a
network adapter so its hd loader for the games that
i will add when i buy some more later (trying to win the final
fantasy that came with the hdd)
i just got bored of the default usba skin

Well simply knowing you followed the tutorial isnt enough, as it would seem you missed a step or misunderstood one.
I wrote that guide and did it based on doing those actual steps i laid out, so i dont know what it is i can say to help, only that i would guess your image you created is incorrectly done. Maybe its too large or the wrong format. Or you simply missed one of the commands to insert it, i dont know.
I can only guess at this point, maybe try attaching what you have and i can take a look, maybe see something your missing or did wrong.

ok, i agree i wasn't that clear;
i don't think that anything is wrong with the image i simply
got it off one of the forums and some stated it worked ok
my problem is:
i unpack the usbadvance.elf
copy the images to a the folder with usbastrip.exe then direct the command prompt to the folder and i patch the splash first; i test it on my emulator
splash loads up then regular usbadvance main
i then patch the main and when i test it again the patced splash dissapeared and previous splash returns
but the main is patched (only one gets patched every time)
note-
1.) i did try it first without testing with the emulator in between patches
2.) I also tried it on my ps2 with the same problem ,(i just got frustrated and started using an emulator.
There realy should be a gui verson of this thing, the hdl gui skin patcher is pretty straight forward and easy to use.

i remember i had the same problem when i first patched with a custom images .
and but i cannot remember how i fixed .
i made a brief one in my other pc .if i find it and i will post it here
patched the images :
In the command prompt type:
usbastrip [options] [file] infile.elf [outfile.elf]
Example:
usbastrip /im newmain.bmp unpack.elf usbadvance.elf
usbastrip /is newsplash.bmp /im newmain.bmp unpack.elf usbadvance.elf
try give the exact names like newmain and newsplash and the see if its gunna work

This is because you are only patching one each time, as i highlighted in red. Try patching both images in your command, just as amp2006 showed:
usbastrip /is newsplash.bmp /im newmain.bmp unpack.elf usbadvance.elf
...using the names you have of course instead of those. The program is designed to use the originals when an alternative isnt specified, when your only patching one, the other is defaulting to the original.
