USBAdvance/USBUtil Problem: Mana Khemia 2 crashes
USBAdvance/USBUtil Problem: Mana Khemia 2 crashes –
I'm having hard time getting Mana Khemia 2 work with USBAdvance.
Here is the story so far:
I have a working DVD-version of Mana Khemia 2, but because my playstation's discdrive is dying, I'm moving my games to usb.
I checked the game compability list and it said that Mana Khemia 2 is compatible with USBAdvance. Advice was to patch the game with USBUtil.
So I opened USBUtil 2.0 and selected "Create game from ISO" option. Then it asked where I would like to create the game and would I like to patch the game. I put cross on IOPRP. Then came the window where one chooses the patches. There was only IOPRP310, so I highlighted it and chose "patch". The game was done and I put it on my usb pendrive (Cruzer 16GB) to test it.
I went to USBAdvance and Mana Khemia 2 appeared on the games list. I booted it and made a quick test. Everything seemed to work fine. Start menu, synthesis, dungeons, battles.. all worked. Then I made a new version with the same method, except that it was patched with ntsc to pal with y-fix (my television supports only 50hz you see). I tested it and everything seemed fine there too.
Then I really started playing it. Everything went flawlessy for about 10 minutes. Then it crashed. Black screen and background musics on. "I wonder if this is because of the PAL-patch". So I tried the original one. Same problem there. It happens when you have played for about 10 minutes and exit the screen. It should move to the next screen, but the screen stays dark and the background music goes on and on.
"Well... Maybe this is because the pendrive isn't exactly a USBHD". So I loaned my friends USBHD. Still the same problem.
I've got many other games work (Tales of Abyss, Ar Tonelico, Growlancer Generations). So I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Should I use USBUtil's manual config on ISO and but the IOPRP310 as active or something?
If someone has got this game to work he could make a step-by-step guide. Please?
*sigh* such a long post. I hope a right person will read this.
My first advice to anyone currently having USBA problems is to try using "Open PS2 Loader" instead. You will find this inside the "Homebrew/Dev" forum and its subforum for "Official HD Homebrew project". It was earlier named "Open USB Loader" but was renamed after it gained the ability to go beyond USB dependency.
In the main beta thread for "Open PS2 Loader" you can get at least one fairly recent binary of the beta revision 62 of this project, which works fairly well (better than USBA anyway). A new stable release is expected shortly which will contain additional improvements (current beta is revision 125). You can get the rev62 beta binary without even entering the thread, by clicking the 'paper clip' icon in the thread title box to open a list of the attachments for this thread. But you'll probably want/need to check out some of the discussions about the program too.
This program can directly reuse your existing games installed for USBAdvance, but in addition to this it also has new capabilities, including the ability to run games over LAN from a fileshare on a PC.
Just like USBA the new loader does have problems with some games, but unlike USBA the new loader has a good chance of having those problems fixed, since it is a 100% open-source homebrew project currently in active development.

The program looks nice... but I still have the same problem. It crashes at exactly same time. Loadtimes were shorter or then it's just my imagination.
I ran a small test and it played all the other games fine:
Battlestadium D.O.N. SLPS_256.75
Tales of the Abyss SLUS_213.86 (Patched with ntsc to pal with y-fix, patched IOPRP300)
Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia SLUS_214.45 (Patched with ntsc to pal with y-fix)
Growlancer Generations (Combined into one DVD-iso, PS2LOAD)
But still my Mana Khemia 2 SLUS_218.90 won't work. Could someone maybe test it?
Edit: sonoranreptile posted to following info to SKSAPPS:
I tried to contact him through there, but I can't view his profile 'cause I'm not logged in and "the registration has been disabled by the administrator".
