    HI.

I have two USB Hdd's western digital my passport 500GB and 1TB they get the power from USB alone, can I use a Y cable power booster so they can get power from both usb ports of the ps2?

any pros and cons of using them that way?

    Thank you

Yes, you can use a Y cable.
And no, there shouldn't be any cons of using a Y cable, except for the fact that you'll have both USB ports used.

The only advantage you'll get is that your disk will work if it was previously unable to spin up (Otherwise giving it about 100mA more isn't going to do much).

thank you, do you think this solution would be enough? I mean would it work the same as USB HDD with power supply?

also is there any risk of giving too much power to the HDD?

    thank you

As long as the device receives sufficient power, it should work the same as if it was given an external power source.

The worst that could happen is that it doesn't spin up.
Most HDDs require a lot of power to spin up, and requires less power to perform reads and writes.

    No.
The device will draw only the amount of current it needs.
Each USB interface provides 5V @ 500mA maximum.

The current supplied will increase if you use a Y cable to about 600mA, but the voltage will remain at 5V.
