I also had the problem, that it showed me "Bad"-, or Modified-Status.
I ripped the games directly from disc with USBUtil.

But even when my FFXII showed the Bad-Status, all parts were in the folder + I didnīt encountered any problem, which leads to an assumption that the image is corrupt.

Apparently the maximum number of games USBUtil will handle is 35, which will make it rather awkward to expand a game collection beyond that point. USBUtil can still help in this, by installing games to a fresh new folder on the same drive. Then those game files can be copied to the PS2SMB folder and the info from the new ul.cfg file can be appended/inserted into the old ul.cfg file using a hex editor.

This method is a little awkward, but still better than the other USBA-type installers available.

But what we really need is for ISEKO to remove that game count limit in a new USBUtil release.

    Best regards: dlanor

I just report this problem to ISEKO.
    Thanks dlanor.

I've discovered a fix for one of the problems i had with USBUtil 2.0 not accepting a SYSTEM.CNF, but im not sure it applies to all the errors related to it.

But i got this error :

After closing that one, this one pops up:

So i looked over the SYSTEM.CNF and found it didnt have the "extra" empty line after the VMODE entry. The cursor was blinking after the last character in the 3rd line, so i simply hit the ENTER key so there was a cursor now blinking on the empty 4th line and saved, then re-inserted it into the ISO and saved the ISO.

I was now able to use USBUtil 2.0 to install the game error free. Im still not sure why this 4th line is so important, but it does seem to make all the difference to many apps and the PS2 if it works or not.
hope this helps other who also had this error.
Forget all that, as i dont think that was what fixed the errors....

    *edit*
I just found another game i have with this same error, but the SYSTEM.CNF was correct, so theres more to this error message than just a SYSTEM.CNF. I'll see if i can find the cause of this one too.

    *edit2*
Ok, on that other game, i opened the ISO with UltraISO and simply hit the save icon without changing anything and tried it again in USBUtil 2.0 and surprizingly, it installed error free. So perhaps its in the rip process that does something to the ISO that USBUtil 2.0 doesnt recognise, but changes with a re-build or re-saveprocess....i dont know for sure, but its my guess it does.

I used to use Nero to rip my PS2 CDs and DVD Decrypter for all the DVDs, so since both these 'problem' games were ripped with Nero, maybe its Nero as the cause. Nero makes a .bin/.cue and i renamed the .BIN to .ISO, so this might be the reason USBUtil 2.0 cant recognise those ISOs properly....just a guess.

JNBK , i don't think you can just rename one format to another .

ON: Great thing about this app , it's all in one , maybe in a future version it will have ps2load included too . Great work !

Too bad Sony didn't switch to USB 2.0 on slims , we would be having much higher compatibility now, right ?

Sure ya can.....i've been doing it for a few yrs now and it always worked so far. Of course there could be some unforseen 'side-effects' to a simple re-named via Windows, but as far as .bin to .iso i havent yet had a problem installing or playing from a HDD , until USBUtil 2.0 didnt recognise those few games i renamed. Those same games work in HDL, ToxicOS and USB Advance without any problems, but i used USBInsane when i installed them for USB use a long time ago.

There are many apps that use the same image, but only with a different extension, so changing the extension allows it to work in another app without having to re-rip another copy from disc.

ps2load isnt included in USBUtil 2.0, but i think i last read it may be included in a future version, but ISEKO did make an independent app that can inject ps2load into a game for you, but i dont remember what site i seen it at.....it was a Spanish forum.

It may be a mistake on your HD?
You have attempted to use another HD?

Look the image, has 38 games installed. ...
In any case I had a similar problem ...

I tried loading an ISO image with the SYSTEM.CNF, watching to ps2load...(It loads the image, but it does not appear in the list)
The problem is what USBUtil not recognize ps2load.elf and ELF applications

    Solution..
If ps2load renamed, for example PSLD_xxx.xx, problem solved.

Thanks eustolio, i didnt know it was posted here.

    New error fix:
I found that the game Scarface did not want to install with USBUtil 2.0 from a direct rip or ISO, so after looking thru the ISO, i remembered the SYSTEM.CNF needed to be edited from before to work in HDL, so i added the number 1 after the semi-colon in it and injected the SYSTEM.CNF and re-saved with UltraiSO and it installed error free.

So if anyone else has a problem installing Scarface, then just edit the SYSTEM.CNF or use the PPF Patch (i made one long ago, but cant find where i put it) floating around somewhere.
