USBAdvance Childproofing
Here's a lame attempt at disabling the Format menu on USBAdvance. I would just post the binary but I'm not certain what the rules are.
Download PS2-Unpacker:
http://www.nobis-crew.org/ps2-unpacker/
Unzip it and run it via the command line:
ps2-unpacker USBADVN.ELF USBUNPK.ELF
Download USBAStrip:
http://psx-scene.com/forums/usb-hdd-...wide-open.html
Run it to decrypt the file and remove the splash screen:
USBAStrip.exe /s USBUNPK.ELF USBASTR.ELF
Download a hex editor:
http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delph...vi32/xvi32.htm
Open USBASTR.ELF and search for Format. Change this text to whatever you want as long as the length is the same or shorter. I called my button Cancel.
Look to the left for the text ul.cfg. Prior to this there are three boxes with the hex code of 05 10 00. Click on the left hand side and change 10 to 00. Save the file.
Now we'll re-pack it:
http://www.nobis-crew.org/ps2-packer/
ps2-packer.exe USBASTR.ELF USBACHDP.ELF
Copy USBACHDP.ELF over and run it. Now when you pick the Cancel option the app will crash. It's clumsy, but better than someone accidentally wiping the drive. Someone more l33t could probably patch the button to do nothing instead of crash.
Take it easy.
