Hi All, this is my first post so please go easy!

I have a PS2 Slim (I think you call it PSTwo)

I have an external USB drive that has been formatted with ul_format command and also I have copied a game to the usb drive using ul_install.

I have burnt the CUE file for the loader CD using nero and placed the disk into my ps2 slim. I turn on the hard drive and plug it into either of the two USB ports on the front of the slim PS2 and turn it on. The splash screen "Matrix Infinity v.136" comes on but then the screen goes blank and seems to hang.

    Can anyone help me please?

    Regards

    Riteon

Yes, I think so, as this seems identical to a known problem.
There is a conflict between USBadvance booting and the "Macrovision Fix" of the Matrix Infinity chip. I had the same problem, and it disappeared after I turned the "Macrovision Fix" off.

Btw: You should also consider updating to the most recent stable firmware v1.39, or even the latest v1.4beta. They both still have the same conflict with USBadvance, but you gain some other improvements.

Its true, but dont forget to look your modchip is true original. I my case a have to substitute de old one ho the sails sad to me that is the original Matrix infinity , and doesn't. After i change for original Matrix Infinity , i can update firmware and disable Macrovision FIX and it works!!! If your modchip doesn't save mosification like enable and disable some setings, be carefull your chip can be false one.

well...how exactly do you turn off the Macrovision Fix?
or how do you go to the config screen?
im using ifinity 1.38, as the little text says on the right-bottom of the PlayStation2 logo on bootup.

With a genuine Matrix Infinity chip you can reach the settings menu by holding down both the 'Triangle' button and the 'Circle' button on the controller while resetting the PS2.

Doing the same thing on some clone-chips reportedly has no effect, even though they too 'claim' to be Matrix Infinity, as seen in their boot logo.

Can't someone hack the damned prog to make it work with all mod chips. Oh! I forgot. If you have a pirate chip then you are a lamer.

i did turn off the microvision function, and saved settings and reset, as it says. however my ps2 starts to freeze the first time it boots with blackscreen, with nothing at all shown on the screen.
when i reset it, it says "please insert a playstation/playstation2 format disk". i tried all my 25 games including cds and dvds, didnt work. i opened it up and saw the laser beam reading disk, and the reader moving, so there is no hardware problem. what should i do now?

It seems that you have a clone MI.MI clone chips like NH9,Modbo or APE will stop functioning once you change any parameters in the Settings Menu.

You can refer to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/144974 where they discuss problems on MI clone chips.
