to be honest, it isnt worthwhile at all, few games are compatible with usb advance and usb advance is pretty slow. The v3 idea isnt too bad, you just need to exploit the memory card.

Speaking personally, i think it's worth it. A new optical unit could be more expensive than a USB Case + a HDD.
