    Has anyone tried this? I have only looked at the usb connectors briefly from the inside, but what I was thinking was you could desolder the usb connectors and solder in 2.0 usb connectors. Would this work? If it did I imagine compatibility would greatly improve for usb advance.

    no, it won't do due to the 1.1 usb controller. (chip on the board) the connnectors are the same as the 2.0 - but if there is a way to replace the connector and if the BUS is large enough to get the 480mbit/sec through it could be possible...

    There's maybe also the way, to modify your BBA's IDE-HDD-Connector, that you can plug in an USB-HDD.

    Mod will do this:

    IDE -(to)-> USB - USB -(to)-> whatever can be converted to USB2.0 (S-ATA, SCSI, IDE,...), or try a 8GB-USB-Stick.
    PS2 V7/DMS3 V2 (FW:2.4b7); Seagate Baracuda 200GB
    PS2 V7/CC1.0 (FW:34 hacked v2 BM:2.1.6); Maxtor DiamondMAX9 PLUS 160GB
    PS2 SCPH-30004R; NoMod+NoLaser

    3xSony BBA
    3xSony MC 8MB
    MAX/Datel 16MB with Boot-CD
    MAX/Datel 32MB&64MB

    Custom FMCB 1.8b+ Beta-Build, my AIO 0.5, Sony&xRhino-Linux

    hmm, never thought of that. I think I will keep my BBA for my fat ps2 though

    i was wondering whether is was possible to address more than one hdd via network adapter, assuming they are powered by separate PSU, so that ps2 would not get too burdened.

    2HDs are possible, as the Hardware recognizes both afaik.
    You can give it a try with HDL on Master and Linux on slave.
    I have 3rd PS2, which should get my "fully modded PS", including all maybe senceless mods like VGA-Mod, or SIO-EE-Cable.

    I'm searching till weeks now for a way to connect 2USB-HDDs to one IDE-Cable.
    It should Auto-Hook it as Master, or Slave.
    USB-Port 1 --> IDE/Primary-Master
    USB-Port 2 --> IDE/Primary-Slave
    PS2 V7/DMS3 V2 (FW:2.4b7); Seagate Baracuda 200GB
    PS2 V7/CC1.0 (FW:34 hacked v2 BM:2.1.6); Maxtor DiamondMAX9 PLUS 160GB
    PS2 SCPH-30004R; NoMod+NoLaser
