Hi I have just bought my wife a ps2 with a few singstar games.
Already one of the kids has stratched a game. I was wondering if I can back up my purchased games on a usb harddrive via pc and then play them through the ps2 via the usb port.

I have just read this on a site, Is this true for me?
Sony has created a new BIOS in the SCPH-9000x series PS2 models that negate any OSDSYS update using the DVD player hack. This means that after BIOS revision 230, Playstation 2 units will not work with FMCB!
I don't have a modded ps2 or swap magic.
I think I might have to get my ps2 chipped thanks.
whats the date code on your slim? if its 8a or 8b it will be ok. 8c is uncertain as they were changing the bios then and 8d or 9a,9b FMCB will not work.
You should first use e.g. uLE to find out which bios you have before spending money on the chip.
Maybe you are lucky and can save the money for another singstar version you don't have until now.

That datecode means that you have no chance of running FMCB as your console was made during the first quarter of 2009, appx half a year after the switch to the new bios that blocks FMCB usage.Quote:

But you should be aware of the other alternatives, such as using SwapMagic discs to run homebrew software from either a USB drive or a PS2 memory card. That should allow you to use USBAdvance which can run commercial games off a USB drive, though some games are not compatible or suitable for such use.

Thanks guys I got my ps2 chipped today with the below chip, It plays my backup DVDs awsome. I have decided for now I will back up all my games to DVDs. Maybe later I will explorer the usb harddrive option again.
