Problems with usb
Problems with usb –

I don't know where to discuss this, but I hope this is the right place.
Recently I am having problems with my usb hdd (it is a western digital internal 160 gb hd connected through a ide to usb kit).
Now this happens sometimes.
When the HDD is connected to the ps2 (through usb port ofcourse) and I turn the ps2 on fmcb hangs while showing the fmcb logo. and If i turn it on without the hdd connected it works. Then I went to Ulaunchelf. And connected the usb hd with the ps2. It as well couldn't access it and was hanging. After trying every sorts of things for like 1 hour. I was just giving up.
Then all of a sudden I tried again and it was working fine.
This has happened to me a couple of times before as well both with my friends pen drive (it was a genx brand) and my own usb hdd
I don't understand what could be the problem.
The only thing I didn't tried was actually connecting it to the pc and seeing if it could detect it at that time when it wasn't working with the ps2.
but right now it is working fine. It happens sometimes like this. I am having this issue over the last couple of days.

FMCB by default checks a USB connected device for apps and it will hang if its incompatible. Try using uLaunchELF to update the USB drivers in the SYS-CONF folder on the MC.
You can grab them from the uLaunchELF release thread or out of the Noobie package.
If it is working sometimes with both FMCB and UlaucnhELF, in an intermittent fashion, then it could be the connection causing the issue. Check the connections are tight and also some 'cheap' USB to IDE cables will break the connections too it seems at random intervals, due to thin wires and poor overall construction.
PS2 Consoles:
SCPH-30001 [V4] - unmodded (2)
SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
SCPH-79001 [V16] Silver - unmodded

ok but it happens like this.
Once it starts hanging while fmcb is booting and hanging ulaunchelf while accessing mass then it keeps happening like that for a while.
then once it recognizes it then it starts working fine.
it happens like in 3 out of 10 occassions when I turn my ps2 on to play games through usbadvance. If it works then It keeps working for a long time. Then if it doesn't work then It gives me a headache for a while like sometimes 10 or 15 mins and sometimes like an hour till everything is fine again. The thing is this it happened once with my friends usb pen drive as well (it was genx 2GB model).
EDIT: OK I found out the problem, Indeed it is the connection between the two, I think it is the usb port on the ps2 which is a bit loose, when I insert the usb connector I need to keep holding it a bit upwards or downwards or else it wouldn't detect it.
But the strange thing is that when it detects it and if then I release it, it works fine

I'm having a problem with my hdd connected via usb on my ps2 as well (hitachi 320gb through sata to usb). In "ulaunchelf" when i choose mass it goes into my usb folder, but all the files are in wierd letters and symbols. When I try to select one it freezes on me. I have the latest "ulaunchelf" version (4.39z), so I don't know if it's the usb driver support or not. I tried to access my usb hdd through "sms" as well, but when it opens the usb folder it's empty. Any help would be awesome. THANX XD!
