Problem with usbadvance
Problem with usbadvance –
I'm having a problem with usbadvance. I tried to rip a game into the USB drive with the USBextreme program and it keeps saying "source drive is invalid". I have windows ME. I also tried to use the MSDOS version, but can't understand how to get that working. All of the instructions for the MSDOS version Ifound were only for windows XP. Please Help! I just went out and bought a 160 gb usb drive so I could do this.
ok a few things. First u sure a 160gb usb drive or external hard drive. Probably a hard drive. I had a 200gb hard drive external and had the same error. Put the file you want to transfer in the directory. Make sure you are in the right directory. Use cd "folder name" to follow the path to the file. An easier way is to cut and paste the file into the C: and not any folders. (cut and paste instantly moves it) Then transfer it and make sure its C:/ and not anything else (should be this by default)
problem w/ USBextreme –
The hard drive I'm trying to use is a Seagate 160gb external. I don't have a problem with my PS2 recognizing the external drive at all.As far as the PC client goes, when I open up the MSDOS prompt it says C:WINDOWS & I can't seem to get it to say just C:. I'm sorry if I sound like a total noob, but I've never used MSDOS before & when I use the windows version, the drop down menu (for the source drive) only shows the M drive. Do I have to mount an image of the game with Daemon tools first? I tried that before & I still got the same error. I guess I am A total noob and I might need more specific, step by step instructions. Oh yeah, I tried ripping the game into my PC's C: drive as well. It seems that the USBextreme software won't recognize my DVD drive.
ok lol do not feel bad, I have a hard time managing MSDOS too. Honestly like I said I had the same problem and it took a while to figure out. It is hard to explain because there are many variables that could cause this error for you. To go into other directorys you have to say cd "directory".
Example: It says C:/ now say "cd iso" (no quotes) to go into C:/iso.
Like i said I had a hard time also. I used the windows version no problem and find it very easy, make sure its usbextreme game installer program. You put in your backup select the drive (should work) (its where the original disk is, select hard drive (external and if you can not select your main and just xfer it yourself), select media type, give a name hit start. Its that simple.
I am not sure what utility you were using but use this one instead.
ALso is your computer recognizing it? Make sure when you go under my computer the external hard drive is listed there. If not then follow these step by step instructions.

OK, I tried the USBExtreme and still have the same "source drive invalid" message.
Next I tried the MSDOS version & actually did it properly. Well, the same thing happened, but it also said "unable to access source drive"
My DVD drive is not the original one that came with the PC. I upgraded from a CD burner to a DVD burner. Can I make an ISO with NERO or something and then convert it with USBadvance? I'm starting to get extremely frustrated. I guess if I can't get this to work I'll just use my external to store my CD collection, so it's not a total loss!
Ok weird the DVD drive is not the problem. My computer i installed dvd drives every few years. For the msdos version tell me exactly what you type to try to copy it. Also if you could send a screenshot of it it would help.
From the website usbextreme:
ul_install SourceDrive TargetDrive GameName CD/DVD
e.g. if your DVD/CD-Rom drive is drive D, and the USB HDD is E, and you are about converting a PS2 DVD game “Metal Gear Solid”, the command will be the following
ul_install D E MetalGearSolid DVD
hm...ok it seems you are having many problems with this program. It will be hard to pinpoint the exact problem so try a different program. I recommend winhiip.
NOte: It is completely free and marked as freeware.
I never used this program so tell me if it works
Damn! Winhiip won't work on my PC cuz I have Windows ME.
This is exactly what I typed for the MSDOS version.
ul_install M D SanAndreas DVD
"M" is my DVD drive
"D" is my external drive
This is what it said after I hit enter.
unable to access source drive
source drive is invalid
I'd show you a screenshot, but I don't know how to do that.
That is exactly what happened though.
