don't even screw with the dos versions and just go for the one in teh sticky in this subforum.
When it comes to USBAdvance game installation I definitely agree, as USBUtil is the best tool ever made for that purpose.
But unfortunately it is not capable of formatting a USB drive, so for that purpose we still need to use other tools. And for this "ul_format.exe" is a useful alternative to bypass the size restrictions of the Windows formatting commands for FAT32 filesystems.
Another limitation of USBUtil is that it can only select a destination directory by loading an already existing "ul.cfg" file from that directory. This means that the program is not able to create a USBAdvance game set from scratch, but can only maintain one already existing.
Fortunately that limitation is very easy to bypass, simply by creating an empty text file in an explorer window for the USB root directory, and then rename that empty file to "ul.cfg".
In USBUtil you can then select that destination directory by loading that empty file, and while USBUtil will complain about the file being empty, it will still be able to install new games, which eliminates the problem (as ul.cfg is then updated).
Hopefully some newer version of USBUtil can eliminate that limitation, so that new USBAdvance sets can be created from scratch without having to create files 'manually'.

hey, you can select an empty drive/dir as destination!
just "open iso to create games" and set any dir/drive as destination ... without need for existing ul.cfg
and.. as i'm already writing here.. i have a question: i've decided to try usbadvance... i'm installing iso using USBUtil... launch usbadvance from osdsys (fmcb 1.7)... select game.. press X ... and just see noise on screen (like on old tv without any signal) ... i've tried many games which are stated as working with usb on list.sksapps.com .. and all do this
any ideas what could be wrong?
Ooops! I didn't think of that in making my last post here.
You're right of course, and I should have noted that destination is selected in each install. It's just that it goes 'against my grain' to give an installation command before having chosen the work directory. In all other installers for USBA and HDL you always start by choosing the drive to work on, and only after that you start using other operations, so I was kinda stuck in that thought-model.
That is a very odd symptom, which I never got. Not even when launching incompatible games that crash. In most cases I get black screen, or just some fixed garbage, but never white-noise like you describe.Quote:

So they all do something that I never saw even once...Quote:

This must mean that there is some fundamental difference between our setups, though at this time I have no idea what it is. I'm currently using a later (v1.8 beta) version of FMCB, but I used v1.7 for lots of USBAdvance gaming too, without any problems.
No, sorry.Quote:

edit: i've found that i still get just the white noise after starting any CD image... it doesn't happen with DVD images ..
i have no idea what's going on
hey! i finally fixed my "white noise problem" :)
all that caused it where non-iso9660 images... so after recreating isos all is working as it should
i cant get usbadvance to load games from my usb 1g flash drive. it is formatted to fat 32 already and i use USBUtil ver 1.02 to transfer games to usb. but when i hit x to start game it gives me a gray screen:cry: any ideas?
What do you mean about re-creating the iso's? I loaded an iso image on to the disc and got white noise (dvd) so I was curious on how you got a different image..
use IMGBURN to Create another ISO from your Original Game ..
