Help me!! Console frozen when I plugged in my usb

I have softmod-slim ps2, an Hitachi usb external hdd 500GB(the small-sized hdd) and a 4Gb usb. I have tried USBExtreme and Winhiip to format and install games into these 2 usb. I successfully did it. However, when I plugged them into my slim ps2, the console was always frozen at fmcb booting logo. This is the problem of my ps2 or my usb hdd? Anyway to get rid of it? Please help me!!! I'm very thankful + grateful to someone who can help.

most likely cause it that FMCB is looking for files on usb device

I have had the same problems before just start PS2 without once on menu plug in usb device then launch with favorite launcher

I also did it either, but when I launched games in usb by opl, it was frozen. Beside, can you give me advice which program is better for installing game into usb? I tried both but cuz my ps2 kept freezing, I couldn't figure out.

FYI you do not use Winhiip to install for usb games that is for internal hard drive on Fat ps2
