i have a slim and a fatty. i can't run usb advance on my fatty and i can only think that its because the cd-rom is disconnected (it was a bitch to reconnect so i just left it disconnected since it won't read dvds anyway)
my hdd is FAT32, will i need to format it to the ps2 format?
is there anyway i can have 2 separate partitions because i don't want to dedicate my entire 750GB drive to just game images?
also i have no idea how to load/transfer games. i used USBUtil to load a game on the HDD but usb advance didn't detect the game so i formatted it thinking it would make a difference but my computer detected it as the same FAT32 partition that was previously used so i'm sure if I try to use USBUtil the same will happen.
I tried to use USBextreme game installer and it is saying something about a NTFS partition...but all i see is mention about FAT32 so that makes me very confused
can someone help me out or point me to a clear dummy-proof tutorial?

My FatPS2 v4 also doesn't read disks anymore, so I just use the HDD for ALL my games.

You want to keep it formatted to FAT32 or it won't work right.

This will have to be answered by someone else who knows more about it, as I
only have one console.

Most of what the majority of us use is ImgBurn or DVD Decryptor, then Winhiip
and a conversion cable set to get them from the pc to the HDD.

so i'm supposed to use a regular FAT32 partition then? how do it detect the game images then? as i mentioned i tried using USBUtil and also tried to just move the normal *.iso files but nothing happened
also winhttp isn't detecting the hdd unless i format the hdd to ps2 format....

dude you will format it to FAT32 and then use USBUtil to install iso .etc.
unless there is something wrong with your isos ,how did you made your iso btw ?

Someone else will have to step in on that issue as I will not disconnect my own CDVD drive just to test this for you. But there could be other reasons too, especially if you have a modchip. (The macrovision fix of most mod chips is incompatible to USBAdvance.)

USBAdvance game images are just normal files (with odd names though), and there is nothing to stop you from storing other stuff on the same partition, as it is not dedicated in any way. But I'd recommend using folders to store any non-USBAdvance stuff (it always uses the root directory for games).
As for using more partitions, that is also possible, but at present only uLaunchELF will be able to access the non-first partitions. Most other PS2 software currently available will be limited to accessing the first partition.

USBUtil is what I mostly use myself to install games for USBAdvance, so I can guarantee that it does the job well, provided that you use it correctly of course.
I tried to use USBextreme game installer and it is saying something about a NTFS partition...
USBExtreme == USBAdvance. They are not just similar but the same core program, and can only use FAT32. If NTFS is mentioned in the docs, it can only be to warn the user against choosing this format.
but all i see is mention about FAT32 so that makes me very confused
Regardless of confusion, FAT32 is definitely the format you need.

well how did you made your ISO ? maybe its the iso's problem

no the games work, tested 3 games 2 of them shown as red dots on the list and one of them as a green dot (which is the one that worked)
but the starting screen's FMV was choppy along with the audio. i kept reading how playing from a hdd is faster but i guess it doesn't apply once you're using usb
also i didn't make the iso's so i couldn't tell you but i'm pretty sure they were well made as they work flawless using ESR
