Few questions...

Ok, I'm pretty sure I got everything down that I need...

I have a 160gig SATA drive with USB hookups for my PS2, I have USBAdvance installed on my FreeMcBoot, and I've tested it with a small Pen drive (it saw it, and worked as far as I know)

Now, the few questions I have are involving ripping games...

I have alot of ESR patched games... I know it only changes the 'format' of the disc from standard data to DVD-Video... but can I rip these games to the HD in ESR format, or do I have to unpatch them (I know how, just need to know if I have to go through all that)

Can I 'rip' a game to the HD via an ISO file? If so, how? haha...

Is there a way to rip and play PS1 games? I have a few that are scratched up a bit, they still play, but would like to back them up so I don't have to worry about them failing one day.

You don´t need to (afaik. Problems while installing are possible, because of the Installer-Programm. UDF&ISO-Stuff [just needs too much time to explain]. Just try it with a USBA-compatible game. The ESR-Patch itself causes no compatibility-issues with USBA.).

Hm,.... ISOs?
I hope you know, how to mount your legally ripped ISOs in virtual dvd-drives. ;)
If an installer doesn´t support ISOs on its own, that´s one way to do it (usually installers support reading from disc... thought... ^^ )

Hm,... No normal way.
-you can do the swap-trick
-you can crack you cd-writers fw, which also removes the ability of ECC (Error-correction). :D
-you can wait for ffgrievers PS2PSXE
-you can discover a way of booting cd-based games (PS1, or PS2)

So even off the HD, no PS1... wow... that really sucks... so many good games still, and no way to play alot of them on the PS2 (some you just can't find to buy anymore, and some are so expensive, it's insane! a video game store in my area that deals in trade in's only want's $75 for FF7... yea, a used copy for $75!)

I know your pain man. I got Castlevania SOTN. It has to be one of the greatest 2D games ever made. Check that sucker out on Ebay, anywhere from $75 all the way up to $140.00. For a PS1 game. AHHHH... I know I have two copies of that game, I treasure them as if they were gold. I would love to eventually play them from my HDD as well. But we can just wish for that for now. And about those FF games heck I don't even get them out anymore. To hard to find, the few I got, I found by accident at a local flee market for $2.00 a piece. Need less to say I drop the money and bought the whole box of games. Yeah there were doubles of some but come on. It was well worth it in the end. Wish you luck on finding some on your end. DJ

Rip em and burn em for now to make sure you at least have them backed up. If one fails, at least you can play it on your pc, xbox1, psp, etc until there is a solution. Though if you have a slim, the swap trick is rather easy if you watch the howto's on youtube... Basically you cap off all your sensors for the tray open (or use magic keys or a fliptop case) load in an original game, wait for it to do that first swipe with the laser and swap the games out. Personally I don't like this method since it's a little rough on the drive motor.
