12-19-2009,08:26 AM
Hi, I formatted my 110 gb hdd and installed a game on it with winhiip. i plugged it into my ps2 and opened usbadvance with fmcb. it said that there's no usb device plugged in. what could the problem be???
And by the way: when i turn on the ps2 with the hdd connected it just freezez at the Free McBoot Screen. So i just waited til the ps2 was on and then plugged it in and opened usbadvance.

dude format the HDD with USBExtreme or use ul_format to format the HDD to use With USBAdvance
when you format the HDD using WinHIIP you will Need HDL not USBAdvance

ok,so i just formatted the hdd with the "USBextreme Game Installer".
I did this before but then when I used the same program to put the game onto it, my ps2 didnt recognize it either.
Should I maybe use a different program now?

after you formatted the HDD you will need USBUtil By ISEKO to install the games

I put the game onto it with "USButil 2.0". It said that it was on there and when I opened the HDD in My Computer I could see a some files there with some weird filenames. Then I plugged the HDD into my PS2 and waited until Fmcb came up. Then I scrolled down to USBadvance and opened it. But again, it said that no USB devices were found... Could the USBadvance.elf which I have on the PS2 be the problem?

do you have any USB Drive you could try it just for test format it to FAT32 and then use USBUtil By ISEKO to install a game .if it worked then i suggest you format the USB HDD with ul_format

Yes, USBAdvance originally had rather poor USB drive compatibility due to the old USB drivers embedded in it. Some other USBAdvance elfs have been patched to include newer drivers that give better results. But either way USBAdvance is essentially a dead project, since no homebrewer has the source code for it, so there will be no real improvements.
You should rather aim for using a genuine homebrew project like "Open PS2 Loader" with the same capability to run games (identically installed) from a USB drive, but with far greater compatibility. That project has great prospects of improvement too, since it is actively developed as we speak here. And among the improvements already available is the ability to run games from a networked PC, without even having to copy the game files onto any PS2 storage medium.
I suggest that you head for the main 'Homebrew/Dev' forum here and into its subforum entitled "Official HD Homebrew Project Forum". That is where you will find both downloads and discussions related to "Open PS2 Loader".
Don't be surprised if some thread titles mention "USBLoader" instead, since that was an earlier name of the same project, back when it only had the ability to run games from USB drives.

Also something to note (from my own experiences), USB Advance will sometimes take a long time to read the HDD and produce a list, each time its run. I have a 1TB USB HDD and it has over 160 games installed. It takes USB Advance near 5 FULL minutes before a list is displayed !!
It only take a few seconds for Open PS2 Loader to display the same list, so for those reading, give USB Advance some time before determining its not working. Not that anyone would want to actually use USB Advance anymore, but i find it useful to check games if they have become corrupt that worked fine before.

SCPH-30001-R [V5] DMS4 Pro SE
SCPH-50001-N [V9] CC 2.0 SLE
