Just wondering if it's technically possible for a PStwo to boot and read a game backup image streamed over the network. It would be a cleaner alternative to a PStwo IDE HD install and faster than USB Extreme, the only minor quirk would be to have a computer or NAS turned on while playing, but that would hardly be an annoyance.

I tried to google any solution or anyone wanting a similar answer but all in vain . Anyone has any info, experience, technical information regarding something like that? Or even why is so hard to find information about this subject?

    Thanks in advance.

PS. I'm new to the forums, please move this thread if it's out of place.

i have asked about this before and the wise people here thought it would be way to slow. especialy games that stream data in gameplay. Long loadingtimes would be ok. but u probebly will get studdering games.

But i cant present any facts or so, just tell you what other people think about the idea.

Hmmm, USBAdvance is slow when loading or during FMVs, but runs most games well after it's loaded. Wouldn't a faster interface (like ethernet) result in better loading times and fluid FMV?

Naturally, even if that's technically possible, we would still need someone with initimate knowledge of the boot process of commercial games and how to translate the PS2's CDVD calls to network file access in a satisfactory way.

I heard about that homebrew HDLoader alternative, HDDemolisher, has anyone got the source code files of the project? I tried accessing the CVS but it seems to be down...

The answer is NO you cant load game ISO though network. There is a project called superbender which is meant to do this but is not available and is still in devolpment. ps2nfo posted screen shots a few months ago and a story about it but has since removed them when there site upgraded. I got banned from there when I got pissed about being teased about the posibilty of the assholes releasing the program in a forum about the posibilty of it becoming public, ****ing media control nazis's. For more info check out the ps2-scene thread turn ps2 into dev machine

Thanks for the info, slimsilver. I did some googling and the SB project looks quite promising... If it ever gets released, that is.

Funny thing they'll release it with full source code (or at least say they'll release it) yet do not do it even in relatively 'safe' file sharing networks... It kinda contradicts with the 'open' part of open-source doesn't it?

Anyway, one can only imagine how the PS2 scene would be now if HDLoader were released with an open-source licence...

If that ever happend $ony would be so pissed. The code would be devoloped as much as linux haha. I once had a thought that if USBEXTREME could look for game images off the network host insted of USB drive it would be a little mod, if only we had the source code this would of happend already. I wish someone would leak the superbender project

I thought that too, I'm hoping that once HDDemolisher gets ready, one could program it to receive iso images data on demand via ethernet... somehow.

Don't know much since my programming is complete pants (at least currently), so I can only hope we can get a satisfactory no disc solution for our 75001s and other non-HD capable PStwos until our consoles lose interest from developers.

...and also hope my dog never gets funny ideas with my PS2 games collection
