    i just want to use my 1 or 2 gig flash usb stick as a memory card on my slim ps2 is that possible?

    No, that is impossible. No PS2 games can save their gamesaves to any other device than the memory card port.

    The closest you can get is to backup/restore gamesaves to/from other devices (including USB sticks), using a homebrew file manager. The one known as uLaunchELF (or uLE for short) has special gamesave support to ensure that all game specific attributes and timestamps can be preserved in backups. In fact it even supports one of the single-file gamesave formats used by some commercial gamesave backup devices. (PSU format as used by EMS devices.)

    By using such utilities you can use a perfectly normal 8MB memory card to handle any number of games, simply by 'switching' its contents in/out of your gamesave backup 'bank' on some other media, to accomodate the games you currently want to play.
