I know I messed up somewhere, because it doesn't work.

I obviously have a slimpstwo; with a matrixinfinity chip. I'm trying to hook up my 160gig maxtor usb 2.0 hd to it, without the use of a cd-r. The reason being, i'm an intern at disney atm and only have my laptop and usb hd. So I tired using alcohol 120 to get the files from the .bin/cue from the usb-advance and just stuck em on the drive (after I formatted it using the (ul_format) cmd; and I had ripped devil may cry 3 from cmd prmpt and then coppied it too my hd (my laptops a bit to slow to do it on the fly) and nothin happens when I hook it up to my pstwo. I was wondering what the difference is from putting a cd in the pstwo with those same files than putting a hd in the pstwo with them on it. Also is there a way I can copy files from my hd to my mc (regular 8mb).

Basic question is: How can I load usbadvance onto my pstwo without having a cd-r? (or ne mc exploit for that matter).

    thanx 4 any help given.

Putting it simply: It has nothing to do with the files used. The PStwo was designed to boot from the CDVD drive ONLY. Without very special methods it will NOT boot programs from any other media, and certainly not from a USB HDD. Sony has NO intention of making that sort of thing work, as the difficulty of booting programs of your choice is an intentional part of their anti-copying measures.

Fortunately for you, however, you already possess an alternative method of booting, because you have a Matrix Infinity mod-chip. This supports booting programs from memory card, and I myself use this method for launching the USBADVN.ELF (the main program of USBadvance).

Also is there a way I can copy files from my hd to my mc (regular 8mb).
You have a mod-chip, so you can burn a CD-R with ExecFTPs, and boot this. Then connect to that FTP server from your PC.

Basic question is: How can I load usbadvance onto my pstwo without having a cd-r?
That's like asking how to drive a normal car without using any gas.

A PS2 modchip exists mainly to allow CD-R booting, and such booting is the main method of getting homebrew software to work on your PS2. It is possible to do so without CD-R discs, but only after you have installed software on your memory card to allow other means to install future stuff, or by buying pressed CD discs with the software needed (here USBextreme).

(or ne mc exploit for that matter).
You shouldn't need the exploit anyway, since the Matrix Infinity has direct support for MC booting. (AKA: Devolution mode 1, or Dev1 booting.)
Edit: Btw, don't even bother to try it. The exploit doesn't work on the PStwo. It only works for the old 'fat' PS2 models.

    Best regards: dlanor
