My PSX (5502) has problems reading CD's while standing horizontal even though I recently changed laser lens in it (not original of course)... Some scratched discs don't go past black SCE bios logo. But when it stands vertically all is ok (except some rare FMV skipping). Can someone explain me why does it happen? My previous PSX - PSOne read them without any problems.

The cd has to be a certain distance from the laser to close or to far will cause reading problems it sounds like yours is to close try adjusting the height of the jewel on the spindle if that doesn't help try adjusting the potentiometer resister on the orange laser cable.
