yes i know this is an old post,but you could play backups on a playstation without a modchip.the very first batch of ps's shipped to the uk had a design fault that enabled you to play backups.to play them you just went to the cd menu,put in a game with the toc equal to or greater then your backup,hold down the lid button and let it read it disk,after reading you just lifted out the disc,put in your backup and exited the cd menu and game would now boot.if i remember sony tried to recall all of the first batch of playstations.

Ahahahahaha my bad man! Playstation disc encryption was my dilemma for years. I always wanted to hack it, and I feel the same now.
Datel managed to do it time ago, Gamesharks were bootable without any modchip installed so that's my goal, sooner or later I'll make it possible!
