would a chip set to NTSC work to read a PS1 game that was PAL with correct colors and frequency?
go to www.megagames.com and look in the PSX utilties and download Import Player... a disc that will allow you to set to NTSC or PAL, disable the AntiMOD Codes and AntiGS/AR codes....
after DLing cook it to CD and swap it in before you swap in the game you want to play
Use an S-Video cable and the issues you mention are probably gone.
I tried this but it still doesn't work. I even tried a few of the other utilities there and none of them work. I think the only solution is to hex edit the start-up file in the .bin image of the game. Problem is I don't know which file (SLUS_***.**, maybe?) or which values to change to what.Originally Posted by zabolyx

Oh, and barf, using the S-Video cable doesn't work either. Where'd you get the idea that it would anyway?
did the Imoprt Player disc run?
I've never had a game it didn't work with... But I don't have the game your talking about (prefer Wipout 3)... It might be using a nonstandard way to force the PAL mode. If so you will need to find a patch for it or try and figure out how to patch it yourself.
you might try one of these tools - http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_utils_pn_cnv.shtml
