PSX (Japanese DVR NOT PS1) questions!
PSX (Japanese DVR NOT PS1) questions! –

New here, I was mainly looking to join for one question- Would there ever be a release of FMCB (or something similar) for the PSX (DVR)? It's that Japanese console that was both a PS1 and PS2 + DVR.
I love mine but can't use it's features because my japanese friends live quite a ways away (not in Japan), and the NTSC-J restrictions are killing me.
I't be nice for even a language change. I'd do it myself, but I have next to no coding knowledge. I'd even commission the project if somebody wanted to take it up.
Sorry if this has been posted, and thanks in advance.

I am an unlucky user like you
Googled everywhere about DSR7500, but no luck. FREE MC BOOT very needed for me, can't execute elf files on PSX . Godly devs must remember about these elite console version of FMCB.

Take a look at the mobo, if its just like the PS2 mobo, a mod chip may be the only option.

hard modding something like this is the last thing I would do, given it's current and future value.
According to "insert source here" its been dissected and shown to have a motherboard with a PS2 area and a PS1 area. they physically separated the two consoles, but put them on the same board.
I may try and see what I can do myself- how would one go about removing and creating a new XMB for this? I'm sure there's a way.

It's been quite a few years since I looked at the PSX hardware but from what I recall of it the mobos aren't different for PS2/PS1, it's PS1 & PS2 on one board and the DVR functionality on another. While it's possible to install a modchip in it, there's a very good chance that the mod would not work correctly due to the fact that none of them were ever designed to work with the PSX and there are certain differences in the PSX BIOS compared to a standard PS2. And as you've mentioned that would certainly have an effect on the value of the unit. Honestly I'd recommend you simply get yourself a dedicated PS2. The PSX is a valuable system and is no better at playing PS1/PS2 games than the PS2 itself.

Well yes, I do have a dedicated PS2. Well, 7 actually.
I would like to try and get in english so I can use the DVR function. It can burn those files that you record to DVD, which is really nice.
Thanks for everyones help, I'll see what I can do.

I hear the Ghost2 modchip have schemes for DESR-xxxx models. But I feel the same as You in this matter - it's too rare/unique piece of junk to do her something like this.
You can buy some cheat device or better, dedicated bootcd like Swap Magic (3.6 or 3.8, there are also for NTSC/J) and launch it code from CD/DVD-R, mc0:/ or mass:/. You can dump fw and send it to FMCB creators: jimmikaelkael and neme. I'm also interested in this dump, especially OSDSYS XMB, progenitor of PSPs/PS3s XMB.
