I was wondering if it is possible to use a component video cable with Playstation 1.
I have the one for Playstation 2 and it works great after configuring it from the Settings of the console.
Is it possible to mod the PS1 so that the component cable can work with PS1?
you can use an original PS2 rgb/scart cable if your tv has a scart output and make sure that you don't confuse scart input with DVI. the rgb/scart cable is the best that there is for enhancing PS1 picture quality on an hdtv.
your second option would be to use s-video. you can either use an original PS1, PS2, or the newer PS3 s-video cable. PS2 or PS3 component will not enhance picture quality as it will mutually be on par with s-video. the latest s-video cable at major retailing stores that you can use is the PS3 cable. the PS3 s-video cable is compatible with all PS consoles (fits every console video input) and retails for $10 bucks.

But you see, my HDTV does not have a SCART output nor an S-Video output. :(
Keep in mind, Component cables don't work on PS1's SCART will for the RGB PAL hookups, but NTSC is screwed adn we can only really use S-Video at best for those systems.
an alternative to get s-video like picture quality without an s-video cable would be to get an official PS3/PS2 or third party (mad catz) component cable for an ntsc tv. component pushes out s-video picture quality on a psx or at least this was the result of my console hooked up to my lcd without difference.

I have tried the PS3/PS2 component cable on PSX and all I see is a black screen. It doesn't work for me. How did it work for you?
sorry, i made a mistake here giving you faulty info. my previous post will instead be applied only to a PS2 and 'not' for a psx. i get a black screen too on my psx.Quote:

Ok I got an idea now. I have just confirmed on the AVS Forum that I can connect my PSX composite cables to the powerful Reciever and then from the Reciever's HDMI port to the LCD TV's HDMI port using a HDMI cable.
Sorry, but whenever a composite signal is used for the first 'link' in the chain leading from console to TV set the ultimate signal degradation has already occurred in that link. There is nothing the later links in the chain (regardless of their nature) can do to restore the signal quality already lost.Quote:

Here is schematics for a component PS1 cable that SHOULD work.
I Plan on building a set myself but i havent had the time so it is as of yet untested but works in theory.
