PS1 won't save on ANY memory card
PS1 won't save on ANY memory card –

Okay, I have this huge problem. I have just re-bought a PSX after YEARS of not having a working one since maybe '06. The problem with this one is that I suspect the CONSOLE ITSELF doesn't save. The reason is that I've cycled through FOUR new PSX Memory Cards now (none of them Sony directly) and none have worked on the PSX. In fact, I think the PSX CORRUPTS the cards because after a small while it asks to Re-format these NEW cards.
Before you say anything, my PS2 is one of the FIRST models, AKA the type that doesn't even play most PS1 games/refuses to read PSX memory cards.
So yeah, I came here to ask if this was POSSIBLE.

Try gently cleaning the metal contacts for the memory card in your psx? A clean pencil eraser might work. I'm thinking there may be bit of oxidation on the the contacts over the years. Be careful to not bend them!
Dunno about your area, but I see old school sony ps1 memcards at pawnshops and even 2nd hand stores for cheap. Worth a shot to try an official sony card, I suppose.
