Are any of you guys having problems with pic12c508a with date code 03XX. I have tried programming numerous, no problem with date code 02XX but having no luck with 03XX date code. I am using a ALL-11 and a home made serial pic programmer and having problems with both.

Holy shit, I have the same problem... Went and bought 30 pieces of 12c508A pics and programmed 10. None worked in PSOne. The calibration vaule is quite high 0c90-0c94 which was 0c60 with a previous batch and those worked just fine. I tried to program the MM3 code into the pic, and chipped some old PSX's (7502 and 9002) all worked fine with these new chips aswell... Then I installed the MM3 code programmed chip into a PSOne and that worked fine too. (thought only with pal games, no imports of course) But I found out that installing the bad chips as "bios patches" and adding the MM3 programmed chips work fine, but that means I have to install 2 chips in a machine. (at least I don't have to throw away the Onechip programmed but not working chips...) Don't know why MM3 code works and why onechip hex does not... Tested 2 programmers, the same happens.

    regards, Stephen

What programmers are you using I am using the ALL-11 P2 and a simple serial programmer that I have used for years and had no problems up and till now. What is the date code on the chips that you are using. Also I don't have problems using external osc for SCPH 55XX and SCPH 100X then the chip behaves fine. I thought I was the only one with this problem till now. I know that microchip have changed there internal software of the PIC12C508A and 12C509A since beginning of 2003 so any chip with date code starting with 03XX seems to be a problem. Keep me informed and I will do the same.

    Cheers

All these chips have 318 date code. I programmed them using the JDM programmer and the homebrew Wilhelm programmer, both seem to program the pics well, but when using the pics in PS One nothing happens, looks like the pics do not do what they should to. But when I program the chips with Multimode 3.xx code, they work fine. (except that it does not boot imports) So I am not sure whether the pic or the Onehex code does not work. (using these chips with the new date code ). I am to buy some 12C508 SMD pics that seem to be the old serie and work fine using the onehex code, but I am almost sure that someone has to rewrite the onehex code to work (again) with the new serie pics aswell... As I said I can use the MM3 code combined with the onehex (using this later as the bios patch) for PSOne and this way it boots everything fine (import NTSC + PAL disks) but this is a lot of extra work, soldering two pics and costs some more bucks and some extra time... Hope anyone will have a final suggestion soon, up till that I use the two hex+this way two chips combined to chip PSOne's...

    regards, Stephen

pS: by the way, these new pics work fine with MM3.0 code even using INTERNAL OSC, so this is why I think it is not the chip that is bad, but rather there is a bug in the Onehex code and that is why it does not work...

    Hi all,

I have been installing psone chips with the 'onechip' hex codes for ages, never had a problem, The date stamp on the chips I am using at the moment is 0304, if you guys are talking about the bottom 4 digits on the chip.

I am using the picall programmer.

    Viper:

actually that seems pics with date code after 0310 have this problem. just tested some pics with date code 0323 and none works. any old pic worked fine for us too, but seems new ones don't. still thinking that it is something with the pic's internal timing, that is somehow changed and so onehex does not handle that correctly anymore (when using the new batch of chips)...

    regards, Stephen

pS: smd 12c508 works fine, though
