I knew I had this some where.... found it a couple of months ago...

Making a PSX 33 MHz run at 67 MHz... help run the good old IMBnes and PSnesX emulators..... oh forgot about the sega emu....

plus supposedly helps with choppy frame rates.... got a few games that could use this help... Dune 2000 comes to mind (having more than 200 units kills my system).

I plan on doing this one pretty soon... got 3 PSX and a PSOne laying around.

I'd at least like to be able to over**** the I/O chip... being that it is the PSX processor... Then I could play the older games better on the system.

as for the whole system.... I'd like to see that.. but I'd want to water cool the chips.. for that matter... it could be as simple as changing a clock crystal... is there a crystal on the board.?

Hmm I might try this when I finish playing Tales of Eternia

has anyone had succes overclocking the chip?

Do you have to use some kind of additional cooling ?

Crappy news... the sys I was going to do this to is a 5400... and the board is not the same... I want to do it with a board just like the ones in the DOC... so I'm hunting for a used 7500 system... hope to find one fairly cheap (especially if I fry it)

While I can't say for sure whether or not overclocking a PS-X model is in fact possible, the truth is it won't help loading times or game playback...games and homebrew software alike are created and optimized for the current PS-X/one settings and won't run any smoother or faster if you overclock...the programs won't even realize the overclock and will continue to run the processor at its current speed.

While I'm usually all for doing something simply because you can, the payoff of taking the time to overclock your PS-X isn't enough....after all, it's not like you could impress anyone by doing it and then telling them about it without there being some proof (like, for instance, marked improvement in the overall performance of the PS-X). For all they know, you could be lying.

FranktheBunny, while I don't think there will be marked improvement, because like you said the games are written to the ps1 specification, I have to disagree that the games would still run the clock at its current speed. The software would have no say in what speed the clock runs at. This mod increases the voltege to the processor thus increasing its speed. Have you ever run an old dos game on a new pc? It runs so fast you cant play it because the software does not thell the hardware how fast to run the cpu. So I think it is interely possible to get some sort of boost in the frames per second rate. However it would not be much of one because of the low amount of ram, the cd drive is still slow, and the games were not written to take advantage of the additional processing power. I think though, inless the game set its own fps rate inorder to conserve cpu usage, it just may recive a slight boost in fps. This is just my understanding of the way things work, I could be completly wrong.
