I double checked, but I guess I should have triple checked!
I was using the diagram below and accidently swapped pins 2 and 3...

Now the laser won't spin up, even with the chip removed. I've checked all the fuses I could find and they are OK.
Surely some-one else has been stupid enough to make this mistake and knows what part is likely to blow and how to fix it?
Any hints gratefully accepted :crazy:
check with a multimeter the value of the resistor you soldered the pin to it ,it must be 22ohm

It did seem to read higher if I was pushing the probes in from the ends rather than pushing down from the top? I might replace it tomorrow anyway and let you know how it goes.

anyway ,this happens if the capacitor(point 6) is dammaged or a little removed(if heated more)
yes my mistake ,i understand that psone is dead .
I still haven't had a chance to try a new resistor, but i did notice that the resistor seems to read up to 110 ohms sometimes even with good pressure applied on the probes (whereas the other 2 22 ohm resistors nearby stay at 22).
There definitely could be something awry with it!
Thanks again for the interest, but if it turns out to be more than a simple passive component I'll put "plan B" into operation - I have a couple of SCPH1002 (ie the first released model) PSX's with dodgey lasers and it looks like the PSOne unit would plug straight in!

It's weird that I got the initial reading of 22.3 ohms from the resistor in circuit. When I removed it and tried it with a bit more current (using the diode tester/continuity testing setting on the multimeter) the resistance climbed up to 110 ohms. It must have been nearly burnt out, but not quite.
I suppose with the mod chip pins misconnected, this resistor could have ended with around 5v across it, which would mean nearly 1/4 amp through it (over 1 watt), which would heat it up quite a bit!:p
