I bought a PS1 from eBay a couple of years ago and recently found out it was chipped when I attempted to use a NES emulator disc which I had burned without using PS-X-Change first and it worked.

I assumed this would mean I could play NTSC games on the console, but I've tried a couple and the image on the screen appears as shown in the video below. I'm using an RGB SCART cable with the console and my TV definitely supports NTSC.

Is there anything I'm overlooking, or is there something wrong with the console?

    Any help is appreciated

It's a SCPH-1002 (PAL Launch Model). I'm not sure what kind of chip it has in it, I took it apart to clean it when I first got it but I can only assume the chip is on the underside of the motherboard as I didn't see it.

You might want to check if there is a colour correction mod installed. It might have a loose cable causing interference.

Don't know if this is relevant but I had a KDL X3000 40 inch Sony telly which displyed PS1 perfectly, the screen became dirty. Well lets say, a lot less than perfect. Anyway, I kicked the warranty into effect and managed to get an 40EX503 for no extra charge.

This telly is light years ahead of my old one, HOWEVER, it does not, and CAN NOT for some reason (which is beyond me) accept PS1 60hz NTSC signal. It has two settings:

    NTSC 3.58
    NTSC 4.43

Now my old X3000 Sony LCD used to display PS1 NTSC perfectly, full colour, ful frame rate, no issues. My new one (40EX503u) seems to switch between the 3.58 and 4.43 standard CONSTANTLY. There's no stopping it, absolutely everything I've done has NO effect. The picture basically wobbles and switches between the two standards making the console unplayable.

I'm at the end of my tether when it comes to this console now, which is a shame as I really enjoy playing my PS1 (in the past). Not sure what to do now...

I'm also in a similar boat to Yuki as I purchased the PS1 pre-owned and found that it's actually chipped, a pleasent surprise really. I've had a good look at the chip as well. (underside, 4 wire - insulated chip by tape)

Just pissed off about this PS1 deal breaker with my new telly. Though the other perks outweigh the PS1 downfall really...

You will need to add a wire to ground like in the pictures to add NTSC 4.43
This should be able to fix your problem.

The thing that catches my eye here is the NTSC -> PAL. Doesn't that mean that my console will be locked to the slower PAL 50hz signal, unable to display NTSC signals? (or rather it will forcibly convert the NTSC picture to a PAL one)

It will not change the Video Mode
When using and NTSC game it will display at PAL60/NTSC 4.43
It is just forcing 4.43 all the time.

Crap, any chance you have one of these for a SCPH 5502 station??

I've got it open now but can't see any similarities with those images and my station.

    *sigh*

Oh fate, thou art a heartless bitch...
