Looking for a spring that fits the PSX lid, but I couldnt find the right size in a few hardware stores I went to. Does anyone know if any are sold online, without having to purchase the usual MOD disc or Cart that includes it?

Im taken it you are speaking about the mod spring as picutered below - no?..

If so there are many ways you can mimic the spring..
One is to open the PSX case and tape the "CD-r safety switch/drive sensor" down.. (works on both the Fat PSX as well as the slim PSone's)
However this would case the CD-r's to spin all the time when the PSX is on..
Not always a good thing when swapping disks - however it is an alternative..
Theres even a switch alternative however you will need a toggle switch as well as some what decent soldiering skills to pull that off (Im sure thats not what your looking for)..
Then comes a 3rd party spring..
What I did back in the day is find a ball point writing pen (the bigger the better)..
As that uselly had a spring that was big enough around to fit as the above photo shows.. Some modifications maybe needed as you may need to cut the spring and straiten one end of it so it fits inside the hole of the "drive sensor"..
The other end of witch was a bit to small with-in the ID (inside diameter)..
In this case I would use a set of needle nose pliers and make the ID bigger so the top of the spring would fit onto the "pointer" as showing in the pix above..
As for buying springs that a whole different story..
If anything - if you have any hobby shops (radio control vehicle retailer) they may have some spring that may work.. However you will still have to "play" with the spring to get it to fit just right..
Hope that helps a little - good luck,

Thanks for the help. Using a spring from a ball-point pen now, but it's still too small, and cant close the lid when using it (just a temp fix for now). I'll check some nearby hobby stores. That sounds like a good idea.
